The Nativity of St. John the Baptist was commemorated on June 23 with a festive, concelebrated liturgy, at which Capuchin Provincial Fr. Michael Greco was the presider. In his homily, Fr. Greco referred to this birthday celebration highlighting John’s potential, as mentioned in the day’s Gospel, and his life as a man of integrity and forerunner of Jesus. Likewise in 2022, Jesus has need of heralds, persons committed to bearing witness to the truth and to all aspects of the Gospel message.
John the Baptist is the patron saint of Puerto Rico, French Canada, and cities in Europe and other parts of the world.
The Church of St. John the Baptist has been under his patronal protection since its inception in1840.
